About Therapy with Fred Mignone, LCSW
I've been a psychotherapist for over 25 years, and I love my work. Clients tell me they feel comfortable talking with me. I emphasize respecting and carefully listening to my clients. I help clients find their way out of a wide range of problems including depression, anxiety, trauma, and relationship problems, and find their way toward their goals such as a sense of well-being, improved functioning, and satisfying relationships. I use evidence-based methods in a context of acceptance and compassion. We'll be working on the issues you want to be working on, and you'll tend to know what we're doing and why we're doing it.
_How does therapy work?
Some clients may need a few goal-focused sessions, while others may need longer-term therapy. Sessions are normally 60 minutes in length, and are typically held one time per week or once every two weeks.
Therapy will involve several steps. First, I'll listen to the concerns that brought you to counseling. I’ll get to know you and how you view your life and yourself. You will probably understand your situation better as we talk. After we have explored your concerns, you will choose specific goals for therapy. Next, we will together develop a plan for achieving your goals.
We will work toward accomplishing your goals by using evidence-based methods. These methods may include, for example, paying attention to feelings that are troubling you, accessing your inner strengths and resources, identifying and addressing inaccurate thoughts that affect how you feel and what you do, or homework assignments in which you try on new behaviors to see how they fit. Please know that any work in our sessions will occur only with your permission. It is very important to me to see that your limits are respected. Your specific needs and concerns will determine what we do.
We will frequently take time to examine your progress toward your goals to make sure we are on the right track. When we decide together that your therapeutic goals have been met, we will move toward completing therapy.
